The Cottages

Post House Garden Holiday Cottages lie at the heart of the tiny hamlet of Cwmbach in Carmarthenshire and are an ideal base for exploring South West Wales.  The Pembrokeshire coastline is within easy reach by car and there you will find some beautiful attractions and some of the best kept secrets in the UK!

The property consists of the owners' residence and two self-catering holiday cottages, set alongside a five acre woodland garden.  Cwmbach means "small valley" and this sums up the setting perfectly!  Lying on the River Sien, once the site of a water powered corn mill, in recent decades the buildings have served as a village store, a petrol station and a post office, and have always been at the heart of the local community.

The two holiday cottages have been refurbished to a high standard and today offer cosy and welcoming accommodation for couples or family groups seeking the perfect rural retreat, a place to relax and unwind.

The peaceful valley offers real tranquillity and a complete break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, yet the cottage location (only six miles from the A40 and central between north and south coastlines) gives easy access to the unspoilt rolling countryside, historical attractions and beautiful beaches of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and The Gower Peninsula.

We hope you enjoy browsing our web site.  Should you decide to come and visit, you can be assured of a warm welcome.

Dogs Are Welcome

Milo (our labradoodle) loves running on the sandy beaches and playing in the rock pools of the West Wales coastline.  He will be happy tell any four-legged visitors all about his favourite places to visit.

Your dog deserves pampering while on holiday too!  Guests are welcome to use our dog shower on request.

Woodland Garden and Riverside Walk

The Post House Garden was established in the late 1970s and extends along the River Sien to cover an area of approximately five acres.  During the 1980s and 90s, the garden was opened up to visitors under the National Gardens Scheme and was reported at the time to be one of the finest examples of a woodland garden in Britain.

Today guests of the holiday cottages are invited to enjoy the woodland garden in privacy.  A gently sloping path runs the length of the garden and provides a lovely dog walk or simply a place to unwind and stroll amongst the trees.

As you approach the end of the garden you come across a pond and just beyond a small footbridge crosses over the river to a bog garden.  Away from the river, the garden slopes steeply upwards and higher parts may be accessed by more steeply sloping paths where small anemones, trilliums and native orchids are complemented by a succession of flowering shrubs, including many species of roses and rhododendron.

In addition to the Post House Garden, pleasant walks may be taken from the holiday cottages.  A track which runs the quarter mile length of the garden allows the walker to look down on the woodland planting from above and an ancient green lane starts in front of the cottages and ascends steeply to a place where views can be enjoyed across the valley.
